Yehoshua chapter 3- 3 Nissan 5766- Shabbos Vayikra (April 1)

Yehoshua - Chapter 3- English text with Rashi

Bnei Yisrael journey from Shittim to the Yarden (Jordan river) and camp, waiting for the Aron to lead them forward. Hashem tells Yehoshua that he will split the Jordan, confirming that Hashem will be with Yehoshua as he was with Moshe.
The Kohanim and the Aron enter the Jordan, and only when they were in the water did it split. They remained in the center of the Jordan until all of Bnei Yisrael cross through the Jordan/, opposite Jericho.

Points to Ponder:
1)Who is this miracle aimed at? How is this similar and different from kriyas Yam Suf? (splitting of the Red Sea?)
2.) What is the significance here with the Kohanim and the crossing and being the ones to cause the split- as opposed to Moshe splitting the Yam Suf with his staff- if the point was to re-enact Moshe’s wonders? Note the description of Hashem as “Adon kol haAretz” (Master of the whole earth/The Land) in this chapter
3.) When the meraglim were sent, Yehoshua chose to send only two representitves of the nation, yet here, like the meraglim, a representative of each tribe was chosen. Why? (See Abravanel on 3:11-12.)
